Could you retire early with a career in PR? 2 Ideas on how to start…

Evening Standard have an interesting news story that has revealed that only 25% percent of workers in the UK want to retire early.’Retire early’ is obviously a relative term because for some people, it could be 50 for others, 30.

My question is do you think that it could be possible to retire early in public relations?

Here’s how I could see it happening:

1. Entrepreneurship: If you started your own PR firm and sold it, I could imagine that this could give you some capital in which to invest in other areas such as business and start-up companies.

2. Saving: This is one that I am really bad at, but frankly saving matters in terms of your career. One idea could be saving all income gained from freelance PR work.

Trend: Why Vodaphone’s new link with iPhone matters for PR careers

The Guardian is reporting that Vodaphone has entered the school dance and will be doing all things iPhone.

I think this is definitely a sign that telecommunications/mobile is a growing trend that aspiring PRs could look into for future jobs. If one of the biggest telephone network providers in the world is looking into the iPhone, people who want to work in PR have to do the same and think of how they slot into this technology and communications world.

This could also be a sign of things to come in emerging markets: as the mobile uptake continues to rise, PRs who can effectively promote telecoms as something simple and essential will be in demand.
