Flavour of the Week: Why Career Ambition is Like Vanilla

One thing about me and I think a lot of ice-cream lovers is I adore vanilla. Vanilla is an essence that is always present. What on earth does this flavour have to do with career ambition?

I think ambition to be successful is similar to vanilla because for people who are desperate to succeed in whatever context, you always yearn to be the status quo, as opposed to simply aspiring it. Vanilla is the gold standard in ice-cream for many consumers…for better or for worse. Sure, there are loads of different flavours, but vanilla will always play the lead role because it is part of the establishment.

And you know vox-popPRcareers can back it up too: According to the International Flavours & Fragrances, Inc, vanilla is the world’s most popular flavour. It is the #1 flavour for ice-cream in Europe and the US.

Vanilla is ubiquitous. This is what career success should feel like to all of us. It should feel normal but sadly, that is not how the ruthless world of success works. I think the more we teach ourselves to treat ambition as a normal flavour or part of our lives, perhaps the easier it will be to focus on our careers harder.

Don’t believe the hype about vanilla being boring either. There is nothing wrong with dominating people’s tastebuds. We should feel the same about dominating our careers too.
